1 Min Night Ritual- How to Prime Your Mind For Success?
5 AM Club, The Miracle Morning etc, you can find many books written on how to supercharge your mornings with practical advises and rituals.
However I am yet to
come across a book titled 9 PM Club, or Miracle Night, exclusively written on
how to finish your day in a perfect way. Some passing mentions have been made
about this in some of the books.
You must have experienced when you are stressed out or did
not have a good encounter with your spouse or kids or boss etc, it weighs on your
mind and do not get good sleep at night. You may also have nightmares about the
things or situations that you were worrying about.
Also, it is the first thing which comes to your mind when you wake up in the morning the next day.
These examples underscore the importance of finishing your
day in a better way, before you hit the sack, so that you not only get a
peaceful sleep but also wake up with positive mindset.
Your last thoughts or emotions or experiences at night are the first to come in your mind when you wake up in the morning.
To change how you feel or think upon waking up, you need to change your thoughts, feelings and experience the previous night before you sleep.
No one has a problem with the first mile of a journey. Even an infant could do fine for a while. But it isn't the start that matters. It's the finish line." ?
------Julien Smith
One should write a journal, spend some time in self
reflection, read a book etc before you call it a day. This is the advice (which
is a sane advise) one gets after reading and listening to many successful
people. But one wonders where will one get so much of time to do all such
activities in already cramped daily schedule.
I shall introduce you to a Night Ritual which will prime your
mind for success while you sleep, help you with good nights sleep and wake you
up with abundant energy, vitality and positivity in the morning.
The perfect ending to any day, race or project is to FINISH STRONG” — Gary Ryan Blair
I call it 1 Min Night Ritual. Every night night before I
sleep I do the following activities. I spend only one minute on each activity.
If I feel like spending more time on any activity that is ok.
Most of the time we do not follow advice given to us because
we do not have time and energy to devote to follow it up.
The moment we think about starting an activity, our mind starts
rationalising why we should not do it. And when there are multiple activities, the
mind gets overwhelmed and resists.
When you tell your mind that you will be doing this activity
only for 1 min, your mind perceives it manageable and does not stress out with
the thought of accomplishing multiple tasks.
There have been days when I am not in a mood to do my
rituals or I do not have time and my mind resists, at that point of time, I tell myself that it will
only take 1 min to do each activity, then the mind readily agrees and I get on with
my ritual.
You too can use the following Night Rituals before you sleep
every night:
1 Min Journaling
Much has been written about the virtue of
journaling every day. It indeed is a powerful tool to express your thoughts and
emotions without any restriction. You can record your hits and misses of the
day, your fears and concerns etc in the journal. You may also write down you
plans for the future.
You may think 1 min is too little
a time to write your thoughts, however when you start writing you may be surprised
to see how powerful 1 min could be. Also, sometimes you will not stop putting
down your thoughts after a minute.
1 Min Introspection
During this 1 min go through the
activities of the day. Reflect upon the good things you did during the day and
pat yourself on the back.
Also reflect on the things you
did not do well, like lost your temper on someone, wasted your time etc. Do not
beret yourself for these misses, instead replay the incident or the scene how
you would like to perform/ respond/ face it if you encounter the same situation
in future.
When you replay the scenes in your mind with desirable or correct actions, it will replace the old impressions or memories associated with the particular event with the new one, in your subconcious mind.
As and when you face the same situation in future, your subconscious
mind will respond to it with new memories stored in it.
1 Min Book Reading
Leaders are Readers. All of us have read and heard this phrase countless time in your life. We want to do it, but somehow our busy schedule gets in the way. The following quote underscores the importance of reading books.
You are the same today that you are going to be five years from now except for two things: the people with whom you associate and the books you read.” –Charles Jones
We come across many articles or videos
which recommend reading a book everyday, i.e. 365 books in a year. Well this may
work for some, but for mortals like us it is too overwhelming to even start.
Here I am suggesting an opposite
theory. Just devote 1 min every day for reading a book.
Pick up any book, preferably an
inspirational one and read it for at least one minute and fill your mind with
inspirational thoughts before you sleep.
You may wonder what impact reading for 1 min will have on you. But don’t underestimate it’s importance.
The
aim here is to get you into the habit of book reading. Once you are hooked on
to the habit then you will not be able put down the book after 1 min.
1 Min Visualisation
Visualisation has been used by
many successful people to achieve great heights in their chosen fields be it sports or business.
You too can use visualisation to face the tough
interaction you have been avoiding, earn money, for promotion, a good
relationship or a good performance in an athletic event or exam. It works in every
situation.
When you do visualisation about achieving your
cherished goal, just before you sleep, you mind will keep processing the
thought while you are deep asleep also.
1 Min Meditation
Meditation is key to achieving a
peaceful, stress-free and loving life. When you meditate just before you sleep,
it removes all negative thoughts and
stresses from your mind.
You go to sleep as a more
peaceful, happy and positive person. These being your dominant thoughts and
feelings at the time of sleep, you shall wake as a peaceful, happy and positive
person in the morning.
You can see for yourself that doing these 5 activities do no take much out of your busy life. By giving 5-7 min everyday you will get back boundless returns in terms of good sleep, success, peace, happiness and good frame of mind to face the world when you wake up in the morning.
